Stained Glass VS. Glass Fusing

Stained glass is a traditional art form where glass is held together with the use of metal. Whereas, fused glass is created by joining pieces of glass together in a kiln. Essentially, the glass is melted at different temperatures to give the desired outcome.

Important Information About Registering

Many of the workshops are geared to discovering and learning basic skills and the projects will vary based on requests and feedback from you. But, I also don't want to leave out learning opportunities for those more experienced glassies, so, experience requirements (if any) will be indicated in each workshop and lesson description.

  • Space is limited for each workshop and lesson. Please register as soon as possible if there is a class you don't want to miss.
  • Safety glasses will be provided and must be worn.
  • Please wear closed toe shoes when attending workshops. Running shoes protect your feet much better than sandals do!
  • Fused glass creations get left in the studio to be kiln fired and will be ready for pick up in about 7-10 days. You will be notified by phone or email when they are ready to pick up.
  • Stained glass lessons use chemicals and solder (which contains lead.) As a precaution, pregnant and breastfeeding women would be advised to take the fused glass workshops instead of stained glass ones.

Prices Include:

  • Instruction
  • All materials needed to complete projects including kiln firings if applicable
  • Use of studio tools required for you ro create your artwork
  • Handouts, if applicable

Perfect for beginners or those looking to solidify basic skills. In this lesson you'll learn how to make a suncatcher using the copper foil method of stained glass (a.k.a. the Tiffany Method.)

You'll learn how to cut glass, transfer your pattern, grind the pieces to fit, wrap each piece in foil and solder the whole thing together. Basically, you'll learn the basics of what you need to know to start this wonderful hobby at home.

You'll leave the class with your finished project and a couple of handouts including a few beginner patterns.

No prerequisite required.

Full Stained Glass Lesson:

Looking for some really robust learning? As a follow up class to the Intro lesson, this class will focus on furthering your cutting techniques to lessen the amount of time spent grinding, fitting a more complex piece and framing the project with came.

Learn more of my little tips and tricks you can use to take your project from good to great. We'll also spend a little more time talking about the types of glass you might choose for your projects and why. By the time we're done, you'll have all the skills necessary to attempt larger projects on your own.

You'll leave the class with your completed project, a couple of patterns and handouts of what you learned over the 8 hour class.

Prerequisite: Intro to Stained Glass

Stained Glass Tree of Life:

A stained glass tree of life creates a beautiful piece to adorn your home. In  this workshop, you'll learn about stained glass and using copper foil to create imagery on the glass. Finally, you'll get to solder your project creating depth and details to bring your tree to life.

We'll be working with the copper foil method of stained glass and discuss the difference styles of glass work found in the variety of projects on display in the studio.

You'll leave the workshop with your tree of life having had an entertaining time while being creative.

No prerequisite required. Absolute Beginners Welcome!

Fused Glass Picture Frame:

Take a few hours to learn about glass fusing by making your own one of a kind picture frame!

We'll spend time learning about how temperature affects the finished piece and how we can create different design elements in glass fusing. We'll explore the use of frit, stringers, sheet glass and blobs and discuss how these items can be incorporated into your piece. We'll also cover some super basic points about glass cutting.

You're project will be left behind at the end of class so that it can be fired (melted) in the kiln. Arrangements will be made for pickup times.

No prerequisite required.
